5 Questions With Stephanie Anne Johnson

Stephanie plays Patty in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Stephanie is pleased to be making their Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park debut. They have performed with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, The Village Theatre in Hairspray, and numerous venues in Seattle. As a multifaceted vocalist and songwriter, they worked as a lounge singer for Holland America Cruise Line and as a member of the Seattle-area Dickens Carolers, and they were a top 20 finalist on season five of NBC’s Emmy Award-winning The Voice. Their final song, “Georgia on My Mind," rose to the number four spot on iTunes R&B and Soul charts.
How long have you been acting, and where did you receive your training?
I have no formal training in acting. I started acting as a child but music being my first love I went on to do that professionally for a handful of years before I went back to the stage.
When did you know you wanted to be an actor, and what’s your favorite part of the job?
I’m not sure there was a moment of knowing that acting would be one of the things I love doing that also sustains me financially. My favorite parts about the job are learning new things and making things that are bigger than my body.
What is your all-time favorite role you’ve performed and why?
Oh man, last year I understudied Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray at the Village Theater. I’d love to play that role again. Such great music!
What role have you been dying to play and why?
I would really love to be in one of the new shows about Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She’s a pioneer of rock n' roll and it would be a marriage of my favorite things, singing and playing various guitars.
What has been the most interesting part of working on You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown so far?
Getting to play so many instruments that are fully out of my depth as a musician has been the most wonderful part of this process.
