Experience the sensational musical about the bespectacled, 1950s rock and roll icon. This non-stop entertaining rock show recounts Buddy Holly’s 18-month, meteoric rise to fame and the indelible impact he left on the industry after his untimely death at the age of 22. Influencing artists from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen and plenty of musicians in between, the early rocker is immortalized in this mesmerizing musical memoir. Performances include over 20 of his greatest hits like “That’ll Be the Day,” “It’s So Easy to Fall in Love” and “Peggy Sue,” along with Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” and The Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace.”

ADVISORY: Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is recommended for ages 12 and up. Buddy’s thick-framed glasses may seem nerdy and innocent today, but his songs about teenage romance, lust and heartbreak were edgy for their time period. Lyrics contain mild sexual innuendo, and there are other mature themes.

RUNNING TIME: The show runs approximately 2 hours, including one intermission.

Tracy happily returns to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park after designing The Roommate in 2018. She designed the recent Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close, Candide at Carnegie Hall with John Lithgow, Lady in the Dark starring Victoria Clark for MasterVoices, and Carousel for London’s English National Opera. Recent premieres include Scotland, PA (Roundabout Theatre Company), The Prompter (Bay Street Theater); Passing Through (Goodspeed Opera House); The Willard Suitcases (American Shakespeare Center); Anne of Green Gables (Merry Go Round Theater, 2018 Syracuse Area Live Theater Award nomination); and Kate Hamill’s adaptation of Pride & Prejudice off-Broadway. Her other projects include Caesar & Cleopatra (off-Broadway), Souvenir (Broadway), Love’s Labour’s Lost (Folger Shakespeare Library), Long Day’s Journey Into Night (Weston Playhouse), Noises Off!
