Our summer camp is a processed base camp, meaning we focus on the growth and development of each participant over the final product. We strive to balance the craft of acting and theatre-making with a fun environment where campers can try new things and make new friends. Our priority is to focus on developing individual skills and working as an ensemble, rather than creating a full production. We want campers to walk away feeling positive about their experience with theatre.
To accomplish this goal, we blend the activities of traditional day camps (such as games, songs and skits) with theatrical skill based classes. Our lessons give campers the opportunity to implement their ideas into a short performance piece which we showcase in a shareformance on the last day of camp.
We exercise Positive Discipline in our program. While we work to protect the experience of every child, we believe in providing every opportunity to make positive choices and learning how to communicate needs in a constructive manner.
To encourage a positive environment, we have an appreciation system:
As we are a process-based camp, the quality of the shareformance showcase is equal to the quality of a production’s first week of rehearsals. For example, scenes will have basic blocking, lines will be memorized pending the level and comfort of the performers, and rehearsal blocks will be used for any scenic components needed for the scene. The shareformance showcase is not a fully finished performance.
On the last day of each performance academy, our campers will perform their show, and we would like to invite you to attend. You are welcome to bring family and friends. For one-week Performance Academies, this will be a more informal sharing of scenes and monologues the students have written. For two and three week programs, this will be a performance of the show the students have rehearsed.
If you are unable to attend the performance, students will be dismissed once their performance has finished. More information about post performance pick-up time will come in the next email. All campers must be signed out by their counselor before leaving the theatre after the showcase.
