Synopsis

A cat-and-mouse tale of volatile emotion and sexual intrigue, this haunting and powerful play begins when Una, 27, shows up unexpectedly at Ray’s office after tracking him down after finding his picture in a trade magazine. The last time they saw each other was 15 years ago when he was 40 and she was just 12. Ray had lived alone down the street from Una and her family. The first time they spoke was at a barbecue in her parents’ backyard. What followed over the next three months was an illicit sexual relationship between Una and Ray that culminated in a weekend trip to a bed and breakfast. On this trip they were found by police and Ray was arrested. Once arrested, Ray was sent to prison and served four years. Since his release, he has changed his name to Peter, taken a job with a pharmaceutical company, met an older woman and has tried to rebuild his life. Una's arrival threatens all that, as she has come seeking answers to questions about the ill-fated affair that forever marked her. Una pulls Ray into a gripping, surprising and utterly unforgettable encounter. A critically acclaimed hit in New York and London, the Olivier Award-winning Blackbird is a provocative, no-holds-barred drama that both chills and thrills.
